Sion-based company H55, which develops electric propulsion systems, is the most innovative SME in Switzerland. Valais is also represented by DePoly, ranked 9th. This is the result of the national study conducted by the institute of market research Statista, on behalf of Bilanz and PME Magazine. This ranking is further proof of the dynamism of innovation in Valais. Both companies are supported by The Ark Foundation and by the partners of Economic Promotion Valais.
Three areas of innovation were examined for this ranking: process innovation, product innovation and innovation culture. The findings are based on surveys conducted among experts and employees of the companies involved, completed by objective criteria (such as patents). In total, 185 Swiss companies have been ranked across several categories: SMI-listed companies, subsidiaries of international groups, SMEs with fewer than 250 employees, and large companies.

Ahead of Rivella, QoQa and Twint
Despite the ongoing restructuring process, H55 tops the ranking of Switzerland’s most innovative SME. It ranks ahead of Planted Food (plant-based food products) and Agile Wind Power (energy). Another Valais-based company, DePoly, that commercialises a depolymerisation process allowing the recycling of plastic, ranks 9th. Both Valais-based companies come ahead of well-known companies, including QoQa, SwissBorg, Rivella, Twint or even Freitag. It is an important complementary acknowledgment for these two young companies based in Sion. Two years ago, DePoly had already been named most promising start-up in Switzerland.
Among large companies, Sonova, Belimo and Sensirion lead the ranking. As for Microsoft Switzerland, it is best ranked in the category for Swiss subsidiaries of international groups, while Logitech leads the ranking of SMI-listed companies, ahead of ABB. The complete rankings can be found in the October edition of PME Magazine, currently available at newsstands.
