Based on the Energypolis campus in Valais, the young enterprise Emissium won the pitching competition of the START Global event, last week in St. Gallen. After having been qualified during a first START event in Lisbon, Emissium got a place in final, and won hands down. As a bonus, CHF 10,000 cash and an investment of EUR 500,000 to pursue the development of its application related to CO2 savings.
“I cannot believe it yet, but we made it. From Lisbon to the big stage in St. Gallen, in front of 7,000 people, we made it to the top of this contest”, says Rafael Castro-Amoedo, co-founder of Emissium. The start-up from Sion was in final with three other international start-ups during this major event. START, which offers different but complementary initiatives is one of the biggest European conferences for start-ups directed by students.
Emissium wins CHF 10,000 cash, but also a b2venture investment of EUR 500,000. Without a doubt, this amount will help Emissium progress in the marketplace. “We are thrilled to work together to provide our data to a greater number of enterprises and accelerate the transition to low-carbon decisions”, notes Rafael Castro-Amoedo.
Data analysis to track CO2
Since its creation, Emissium is supported by the Ark Foundation and by coaches from CimArk, partners of Economic Promotion Valais. Spin-off of the EPFL Valais and of Professor François Maréchal’s laboratory, Emissium develops a digital platform that allows enterprises to measure, keep track and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Emissium’s solution is based on the advanced analysis of data to offer a precise and transparent reporting, that makes the definition of concrete strategies of decarbonisation easier. For example, it allows data centres, important electricity consumers, plan their operations when electricity has the lowest carbon footprint and price.
