Urbio continues its growth after winning Smart Energy Event’s pitch contest

Valais-based start-up Urbio, which won the public award at the Smart Energy Start-up Pitch Contest in 2023, continues to expand and strengthen its role as a pioneer in urban energy planning.

Founded in 2020 as a spin-off from EPFL Valais/WallisUrbio has quickly established itself in the field thanks to its expertise in artificial intelligence and data. With a team of about 20 people, Urbio provides innovative solutions to energy providers and engineering consultancies across several European countries.

Currently, energy providers face the challenge of gathering and cleaning scattered energy data, which is time-consuming. Urbio’s software accelerates this process by centralizing and visualizing all relevant energy data, similar to Google Maps, thereby facilitating access and offering transparency and simplified analysis through instantly generated colorful maps. “We continue to expand our commercial activities in Europe and are working on new AI and generative design features,” said Sébastien Cajot, Co-Founder of Urbio.

Team expansion for 2024

Urbio aims to grow its product and sales teams to meet the increasing market demand in Europe. “We are determined to solidify our position as a leader in urban energy planning”, commented Sébastien Cajot. With a clear vision for the future, Urbio strives to stay at the forefront of innovation in a rapidly changing sector. The company already has clients in Switzerland, including OIKEN, Romande Energie, Groupe E, and CKW, as well as in Germany and Belgium.

Participation in the Smart Energy Event has been very beneficial for Urbio. “Pitching in a room full of experts is always an enriching experience,” remarked Cajot. By winning the public award, Urbio confirmed its status as a major player in the energy transition. This experience also strengthened the company’s connections with industry partners and media, demonstrating its growing recognition in the sector.
