Zero emission boat: the Valais-based start-up MobyFly raised CHF 10.1 million!

Founded in 2020 by Sue Putallaz, Anders Bringdal and Ricardo Bencatel, MobyFly has announced the closing of its Series A financing round, that reached CHF 10.1 million. This amount includes a significant contribution from the Environmental and Solidarity Revolution Fund, financed by the Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale corporate dividend and run by Crédit Mutuel Impact. Based in Bouveret and supported since its launch by Economic Promotion Valais and The Ark Foundation, the start-up was also financed by existing and new private investors, as well as CCF Valais, the financial services provider of the economic promotion of the Canton Valais.

“This fundraising is a decisive milestone for MobyFly. Thanks to the support from Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale and from our other investors, we enter a new phase of development, enhancing our industrial capacity and accelerating our commercial roll-out. Our mission remains clear: we want to provide a viable, profitable and eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuel-powered ferries”, explains Sue Putallaz, co-founder of the start-up.

This important investment will allow MobyFly to expand its operations, enhance its engineering and R&D capacity, speed up the market launch of its zero-emission hydrofoil technology in a high-demand sector, and reinforce its commitment to sustainable and profitable marine transportation.

Pioneering the future of passenger shipping

MobyFly is at the forefront of zero-emission hydrofoil technology, designing and delivering high-performance electric boats to the market of fast ferries. These boats are fast, silent, comfortable and clean, providing a solution of passenger shipping with an unrivalled return on investment, that not only benefits operators, but also municipalities and passengers.

Thanks to its patent-pending foil technology and specific electronic systems, including a flight control system, MobyFly’s hydrofoils can carry passengers at speeds excessing 70 km/h (43 mph) without making any wave, noise or pollution. The company’s technology enables its boats to consume up to 80% less energy, while reducing operating costs by 60% compared with traditional diesel ferries.

Certification in sight

This Series A financing will enable MobyFly to industrialise and authenticate its technological platform, continue developing its cutting-edge hydrofoil technology and fast-track the enterprise on new international markets.
